In regulated sectors, the list is the campaign. You can have a fully authenticated sending domain, a clean template and a sharp offer, and it will still fall flat if the data behind it is out of date.
That's why, when we reach out to government and healthcare, the data comes from A-ZGovBIZ. Here's our reasoning.
Public sector data goes stale faster than most
Government and health organisations are in constant motion. Departments get restructured, roles are filled by contractors and secondees, and people move between agencies. A list bought twelve months ago can quietly lose a meaningful share of its accuracy.
That isn't just a response-rate problem. Every hard bounce is a signal to mailbox providers that a sender doesn't know who they're mailing. Enough of them and your messages start landing in junk for everyone, including the contacts who did want to hear from you. On FlipSend we actively monitor bounce and complaint rates, so a poor list doesn't just underperform, it can put sending on hold.
Clean data is the foundation everything else sits on.
1. It's maintained, not just sold
Plenty of providers sell a spreadsheet and walk away. A-ZGovBIZ runs an ongoing maintenance program: its analysts research and update the database daily, and verify records by phone and direct mail.
It also runs an inbound program where subscribers report their bounces back, so changes are picked up all year round rather than at an annual refresh. A-ZGovBIZ reports email deliverability across the database of around 98.5 to 99 per cent as a result.
Its Discovery platform delivers monthly updates, and includes reporting that shows exactly what changed between the old and new versions of a record. For ongoing campaigns, that matters far more than a one-off purchase that starts ageing the day you download it.
2. It's specialist, not generalist
General B2B databases tend to be thin in the public sector. A-ZGovBIZ focuses on it:
- Government: local councils, state and federal departments, statutory authorities, boards and commissions
- Health: public and private hospitals, aged care, health agencies and health care services
- Education: public and private schools, TAFEs and universities
That adds up to more than 100,000 decision-makers, buyers and influencers across every state and territory, with New Zealand coverage as well. When your market is the public sector, depth in the public sector is what you're paying for.
3. The segmentation matches how government actually buys
Each record carries more than a name and an email. It includes position, division, job level, job function, sector (federal, state or local), head office or branch, and metro or country location.
That means we can target, say, procurement and IT leads in regional health services, rather than blasting "everyone at a hospital". Tighter targeting lifts response rates and keeps complaint rates down.
How we put it to work
This is the workflow we recommend for government and health campaigns:
- Select the segment in Discovery by sector, role, job function and location.
- Import into FlipSend. Emails are normalised and de-duplicated, and existing opt-outs are checked before anything is sent.
- Validate before the first send if the segment is new or hasn't been mailed recently.
- Send from an authenticated domain (SPF, DKIM and DMARC) and watch bounces and complaints as the campaign runs.
- Report bounces back to A-ZGovBIZ so the source gets fixed, not just your copy.
The bottom line
Reaching government and healthcare well comes down to three things: the right people, a message that's relevant to their role, and a sending reputation you protect. A-ZGovBIZ gives us the first and makes the second easier. FlipSend takes care of the third.
That's why we trust our long-term relationship with Michael and the team at A-ZGovBIZ as our source of data. As a leader in healthcare communications, growing our market share depends on a partner we can rely on, and they've been exactly that.
